The Pai Pai Indigenous Community of Santa Catarina, Baja California
The Pai Pai indigenous community resides in Santa Catarina, Baja California. For over 1,000 years, Pai Pai pottery has been crafted using basic tools such as shovels and anvils. Clay is meticulously sourced from local hills, then shaped by hand with dedication and passion. Traditional vessels are fired on the ground in kilns fueled by dried yucca, native flora, and cow dung.
Meet Daria Mariscal
Daria Mariscal is a key figure in her community, preserving and practicing traditional crafts passed down from her ancestors. She is the sole artisan continuing these ancient techniques.
The Raices Collection
In collaboration with the Pai Pai community, we have commissioned a special batch of clay beads crafted using the same traditional methods used for their original vessels. These unique beads are incorporated into our Raices collection, which pays homage to Baja's native roots by blending modern materials such as steel and mother of pearl with traditional craftsmanship.
